When Sunny Deol had made ‘Ghayal Once Again’, he had invested a very big amount into it. Even he had mortgaged his Mumbai studio for the film. His career lies on the stake with this sequel but the numbers which are coming from the box office are not showing good signs. At the end of its first weekend, ‘Ghayal Once Again’ has collected Rs 23.25 crore, which is not good as expected by the makers.
This second installment of Sunny’s 1990 action-drama ‘Ghayal’ had started well on Friday with Rs 7.20 crore. Saturday was the commencement of the weekend and it was expected to see a healthy jump on the day as this is the film of a successful franchise but surprisingly, the footfalls on Saturday was low and the film had just only fetched Rs 7.65 crore.
Sunday was also similar and again it has failed to reach the double figure mark. Sunday numbers have shown a little jump and reached to Rs 8.40 crore. With this, the first weekend, which is very crucial for any film, is hold on to Rs 23.25 crore. The makers were expected somewhere around Rs 30 crore but it failed to reach even closer to those numbers.
Although, this is the second best weekend collections of any film in 2016 after ‘Airlift’ which had collected Rs 44.30 crore. Also this is the best ever first weekend total of Sunny Deol’s career. He has surpassed the numbers of his family entertainer ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana 2’ (2013) that had Rs 21.50 crore from its first three days.
With this average show on the weekend, now it is an uphill task for ‘Ghayal Once Again’ to pick and has been stable throughout the week. Plus this coming Friday has a big release ‘Fitoor’ starring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. So, ‘Ghayal once again has only few days left to fetch as much as possible to come close to its making cost.
