Sonakshi Sinha’s last week released women oriented action film Akira has done pretty well on its first weekend at the domestic box office. Despite, the average turnout, Akira has managed to collect Rs 16.65 crores on its opening weekend.
Sonakshi, unlike her bubbly on-screen image, played out a totally different character of a girl Akira, who singlehandedly stands out against the corrupt system of the country. Sona has performed some out of the box action-sequences, that has been the talk of the town for quite some time.
After a moderate start off just Rs 5.15 crores on Friday, Akira has shown cheering growth on Saturday and brought in Rs 5.30 crores. Sunday, as expected has become the biggest day for the film and it has collected Rs 6.20 crores.
It seems that Akira is growing quiet and steady. Although the rise is not huge but as we know about the limited screens plus the missing of star power, Akira has done a fantastic job. The occupancies on Saturday and Sunday have shown impressive growth and it ranged in between 35-45%.
As far as box office records concern, Akira hasn’t broken any of the existing records of the box office but if its performance in the coming very crucial first week becomes steady like this, it will definitely among the top women-oriented films like Neerja (2016), Marry Kom (2013) etc.
Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif starrer Baar Baar Dekho is also arriving on this Friday, so the terrain is really tough for Akira and lets’s see how it goes.
