Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Sarabjit has performed reasonably well at the domestic box office on its first weekend. This Omung Kumar directorial biopic has collected Rs 13.96 crore on first weekend, which is just decent as this is a low budget film.
Made with the budget of around 25 to 30 crore, Sarabjit has started its run on Friday with Rs 3.69 crore that was not pleasing numbers for this kind of big film that was created lots of buzz around the people with its unique plot. Generally, people have lots of curiosity about these kind of biographical films and the past record like of Marry Kom (2014) and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) were excellent but this time the positive reviews couldn’t transformed into the numbers as per the expectations.
Well, Saturday was even better from Friday and the film showed some growth with Rs 4.56 crore came. Sunday as expected was the best day for Sarabjit and the film had collected Rs 5.71 crore. Although, there is a definite rise in the collections on each day but it was not even close to the films which generally does an average collections of around 20 crore.
it is very difficult to find out what is the exact reason for this below average box office show. In fact, these numbers of the first weekend are even lesser than the collections of some disastrous films of this year like Fitoor (Rs 14.11 crore), Sanam Re (Rs 17.05 crore) and Rocky Handsome (Rs16.12 crore).
After this dismal performance on its first weekend, now Sarabjit not only wants to grow from here but also hold tight on the week days to get some relief. There will not be any big release in the coming week as well which might help Sarabjit to get closer to its production cost.
