Film review: Fan is only treat for the diehard Shah Rukh Khan fans

srk-fan-second-posterDirector: Manish Sharma
Starcast: Shah Rukh Khan, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Waluscha De Sousa and Yogendra Tiku
Duration: 143 minutes
Genre: Thriller
Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

For the past few years, Shah Rukh Khan has been part of some multistarrer films which had been criticized by the critics. Whether, it was Happy New Year (2014) and Dilwale (2015), these films had not received that kind of response as expected from a Shah Rukh Khan film. Now Shah Rukh again wants to proof his pure acting skill, that’s why he has chosen Maneesh Sharma’s Fan, in which you will only watch Shah Rukh, Shah Rukh and Shah Rukh. Fan has presented Shah Rukh as hero, villain, fan and Superstar but Fan failed to fall into the heart. The subject chose by Maneesh is fresh and fantastic. First half was also mind blowing but the further buildup was not as expected from a thriller. The kind of thrill and fear people were expecting after the half was clearly missing and it is not even close to Shah Rukh’s other thrillers like Baazigar (1992) and Darr (1993). Let’s do the SWOT analysis of Fan.

Fan revolves around a Delhi boy Gaurav (Shah Rukh Khan) who owns a cyber shop in the town. He is the biggest fan of Bollywood superstar Aryan Khanna. He totally gets into it and wants to live Aryan Khanna.  But when this obsession converts into madness, he not only creates problems for himself but it also affects Aryan deeply. Maneesh tries his best to hold the story and somehow he is successful as the first half holds well but after that the film derails from the track. Specially the action sequences were not upto the mark. Everytime it feels that something different will happen but the film goes on as per the predictions and there is not any thrill in the film which you will surely miss.

As I said earlier, Fan is all about Shah Rukh Khan. In the last few films you were seen him in the middle of number of characters but this time you will satisfy with his full length appearance. Shah Rukh as a Gaurav has done fantastic job. His Delhi boy’s accent and acting is superb and everytime his appearance in the big screen will delight you.  Gaurav of Fan might remember you Datto of Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2011). Fan doesn’t have any female lead, songs and another big star, so this is for all the true Shah Rukh Khan fans.

Last Words:

Fan is the treat for Shah Rukh Khan fans but I must say that his diehard fans will also missing something prolific as expected by them but everytime a film releases with Khan in the star cast will be loved by the people.  So just go and enjoy these two hours with your superstar and his biggest fan but don’t expect anything extraordinary from the film.

My Rating for Fan is 2.5 out of 5 stars.
