Shakun Batra Directorial last week released Kapoor and Sons had a wonderful first weekend at the Indian box office. As expected, on Sunday, the film had collected Rs 11.75 crore and reached to Rs 26.35 crore in its first weekend, which is something cheerful for the producers.

This Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan starrer family drama had received positive reviews from the critics and started pretty well on Friday with Rs 6.85 crore. Although Saturday was quite affected with the all important India vs Pakistan World T-20 cricket match, but it didn’t show much drop and raked Rs 7.75 crore.
After this moderate show on the first two days, all eyes were on Sunday that was a Holiday. Besides, the limited screens, people came out in very decent numbers which clearly shows they have appreciated this Karan Johar production venture. Throughout the day, the occupancies were around 50 percent and it is the result of positive word of mouth from the audience.
If we talk about the box office records concern, Kapoor and Sons has now become second highest grosser of 2016 eclipsing Sunny Deol’s Ghayal Once Again which had brought in Rs 23.25 crore in this span of time. Akshay Kumar starrer Airlift is still holds the record of highest grossing film of the year with Rs 44.30 crore.
Now after passing the first weekend test with distinction marks, Kapoor and Sons has now an uphill task of remaining steady on weekdays too and as there is not any competition around the corner, it will get closer to Rs 40 crore after the end of first week.
