Filmmaker Prakash Jha is known for his political dramas inspired by the problems faced by our corrupt systems.
Some of his finest films are Gangajal (2003), Apaharan (2005), Raajneeti (2010), Aarakshan (2011), Chakravyuh (2012) and Satyagraha (2013).
This genre is in his blood and again, he has come up with another political and criminal drama Jai Gangajal, which is the sequel of hit film Gangajal that featured Ajay Devgn. Although, you can say that this is the sequel but have completely new story and Ajay has been replaced by Priyanka Chopra as Police officer.
Jai Gangajal is the story of a small district Bankipur situated in Bihar where SP Abha Mathur (Priyanka) has come after getting posted by the recommendations of Chief Minister.
Abha Mathur is a very brave and disciplined police officer who always wants to punish those who break the law. She knew how to take work from the other police officials and always bring them on the toes. She herself is a fine with action and took charge against the bad elements of the society.
There is a powerful man like every other film named Bholanath (Manav Kaul), who is a corrupt politician and wants to become the stalwart of Bankipur. Abha Mathur single handedly fights with this corrupt system. In between, she face lots of adverse situations but her strong courageous will and ability to sustain in these situations bring herself the Hero of the film towards the end.
This is a typical kind of Prakash Jha type’s film in which the lone Police Officer takes charge against the corrupted system but this is the male protagonist has been replaced by Priyanka. Although, the film comprises with some soundful dialogues but still some glitches are there in the story which could be done better.
Priyanka Chopra has come a very good job as this tough cop role. Her acting looks real along with some fantastic dialogue delivery.
She has done some eye-catching action sequences which you will enjoy in between the story. This is really good film for Priyanka to comes out of typical glamorous avatar and she has successfully shown her versatility with this character. Prakash Jha, who also made his acting debut with the film, is looking good with his dialogues and the seriousness required in his role is played by him superbly.
The rest of the star cast too has done pretty well in their respective roles.
If you are fans of Prakash Jha’s film and like these kinds of political, Jai Gangajal is for you and you also have a chance to show Priyanka in completely different avatar. This could be one time watch.
