Yesterday released family drama Kapoor and Sons has opened with good numbers at the box office on its first day. This Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan starrer has collected Rs 6.85 crore on Friday, which is a very decent total for this Karan Johar’s productions.
Directed by Shakun Batra, Kapoor and Sons had received positive reviews from the critics and the performances had also upto the mark. With the overdose of pre -released promotions luckily matched up with the critics rating and the result is pretty well collections on its opening day.
Despite the working day, Kapoor and Sons showed a very commendable response specially in metros and urban cities. The occupancies had been around 40 to 50% and it will surely see a healthy growth in coming two days.
Kapoor and Sons had released in very limited number of screens with just around 1500 screens, so these are valued figures. With this, Kapoor and Sons become the fourth biggest opener of 2016 behind Airlift (Rs12.35 crore), Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 (Rs8.15 crore) and Ghayal Once Again (Rs 7.20 crore).
Now, it is interesting to see how it will perform in its opening weekend with no big competition upfront. There is a huge Cricket match between the arch rivals India and Pakistan today in the evening, so there might be chance that the film would show negligible footfalls from the night shows but overall, the results will be in the favor of the producers.
On the other hand, Himesh Reshammiya’s Teraa Surroor’s collections have now got down in Lakhs. On Friday, it just had Rs 37 Lakhs in its kitty and reached to Rs 11.75 crore. While, Neerja is still running in good numbers of screens and so far collected Rs 73.07 crore. Day by day, it has strongly managed its second position in terms of highest grossers of the year.
