Neeraj Pandey’s crime-thriller Rustom has continued to run smoothly on 19th day at the domestic box office. Akshay Kumar and Ileana D’Cruz starrer real life incident based film has added approx Rs 0.62* crores on 3rd Tuesday to its total and now its overall box office collections has reached to Rs 123.62 crores.
This is Rustom’s third week commencing at the box office and despite some new releases such as Happy Bhag Jayegi and A Flying Jatt, the film has not overpowered by them.
Even in some circuits, Rustom has witnessed more occupancies than the other two films, which clearly shows that people have given so much love to this Akshay’s film and his character of a Naval commander got millions of accolades from the audience.
On the other hand, Hrithik Roshan’s pre-historic period-drama Mohenjo Daro, which was released on the same day with Rustom has almost folded out from the theaters.
Ashutosh Gowariker’s film has turned out to be one of the biggest disasters of the year and wrapped with its overall collections of around Rs 61 crores. The cost of production of Mohenjo Daro was 120 crores, which means it resulted as a huge losing affair for the makers.
Meanwhile, Rustom’s worldwide collections have now got closer to Rs 150 crore mark. At the end of 19th day, Rustom’s global figures have reached to approx Rs 145 crores including around Rs 36 crores from overseas markets.
Now, there are 2 more days left in this 3rd week of Rustom and another 50 lakhs per day will push it towards 125 crores, then the 4th weekend will ready to go and certainly, it will witness some growth.
But the biggest hurdle now for Rustom is Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira, which is about to release on 2nd September.
It is interesting to see whether Rustom would manage to beat Akshay’s Airlift (Rs 127.84 crores) and become second highest grosser of 2016 after Sultan (Rs 300.65 crores)
