2016 would be the dream year for Akshay Kumar as he is the only actor, who has two 100 crore grossers under his belt. Now, he is again back with crime-thriller Rustom as his third film of the year. Now, the question is whether Akshay would make three in a row.

Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, Rustom is a crime-thriller based on a real life incident of 1959 K.M. Nanavati Case in which an Indian Navy officer Nanavati killed his wife’s lover with the gun shots. This was the last case in the history of Indian judiciary to be tried on jury basis.
Now, producer Neeraj Pandey with whom Akshay had given two hit films Special 26 (2013) and Baby (2015) has come up with this edge of the seat thriller and Akshay is playing the character of the Naval Commander Rustom Pavri.
If we talk about the economics of Rustom, it has made with the budget of around 45 crores that includes 30 crore as production cost plus 15 crore spent on promotions and marketing. It will get around 2300 screens and the producers have already declared it as a limited release.
There has been so much buzz among the media and the fans throughout the last few weeks and the soulful romantic tracks of Rustom have made its place in the heart the people plus Akshay Kumar factor would surely make sure that it will get a very good start on the opening day.
If Rustom manages to get the occupancies around 40 to 50 % on the opening day, it will definitely cross the 10 crore mark on Friday and the double digit start is certainly not a bad start.
But the biggest problem for Rustom is that it will have to clash out with Hrithik Roshan’s period-drama Mohenjo Daro, that is also releasing on the same day.
Although, the subject and genre of both these films are totally different from each other but then two superstars are meeting on the same day and they have their own fan following which might affect both the films.
It is now interesting to see how Rustom will perform at the box office.
