Abhishek Chaubey’s last week released crime-thriller Udta Punjab has passed the first Monday test at the Indian box office with good marks. After getting a smoking start, Udta Punjab holds really well on its first Monday and managed to collect Rs 4.50 crore. Now, it’s three days box office collections stands at Rs 38.30 crore.
Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer controversial film before its release, which ultimately gave a huge boost to the collections at the box office. It started its run on Friday with Rs 10.05 crore, Rs 11.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 12.50 crore on Sunday.
The real test of every film starts with weekdays and its further run will be decided by the numbers to be attained in weekdays. Although, there has been more than 50 % drop on Monday as compared to what it got on Sunday but then it is a routine fallout with which every film suffered.

The positive word of mouth along with some spectacular performances by Shahid and Alia is the reason for this commendable footfalls. On Monday too, the occupancies was around 30 to 40 % and the late night shows in the major circuits even gone housefull, which itself tells the story.
With this, Udta Punjab has entered the list of Highest grossing Bollywood movies of 2016. Currently, it is positioned at 10th place eclipsing Sunny Leone starrer adult-comedy film Mastizaade, which finished its box office run at Rs 38 crore.
Now, Udta Punjab has to stick steady like this in the coming days to earn more and come close to the cost of production, which is around 60 crore (including P$A). With no big releases in the next two weeks, Udta Punjab has an ideal chance to collect as much as possible from here.
